Jim and Marie Chesnutt Fund

The Rev. Jim Chesnutt joined the Presbytery of Newton as the Synod of New Jersey staff in 1967 and became the first Presbytery Executive in 1972 when the Synod of New Jersey became part of the Synod of the Northeast.  He served in this capacity until he retired in 1992.

Jim’s partner in ministry is Marie (Mary Rose) Chesnutt. The two served as a ministry team for over 63 years. Their ministry focused on many things including supporting the work of congregations, leadership development, Blair Academy partnership and promoting social justice.

The purpose of the fund is to provide annual income to the operating budget for congregational resourcing, educational programs that focus on leadership development, and promoting social justice.  Gifts maybe be given in memory or honor of loved ones.

Gifts maybe be made through online giving or by sending a check to the Presbytery Office marked for the Jim and Marie Chesnutt Fund.

Clergy Care Fund

The Clergy Care Fund is to provide financial assistance for Teaching Elders of the Presbytery of the Highlands in times of emergency and/or crisis. Funds can be used for:

  • Assistance with medical bills outside of normal deductibles and shared cost.
    · Mental or Physical health care for pastor, spouse, or family members (26 or under) not covered by Board of Pensions.
    · Shared grants with the Board of Pensions
    · Financial family emergencies/crisis
    · Emergency Pulpit supply (up to 2 weeks) because of hospitalization or life-threatening illness.
    · Other emergencies or care issues as determined by the Pastoral Care Team of COM.

The Presbytery Meeting Worship Offering is used for the Clergy Care Fund.  Gifts can be made to the Clergy Care Fund online or by sending a check to the Presbytery office marked for Clergy Care Fund

Scholarships for Inquirers and Candidates

The Ordination and Installation services offerings are used to fund scholarships for Inquirers and Candidates for ministry. The Committee on Preparation offers grants annually for those under care of the Presbytery.

Gifts can be made to the Inquirers and Candidates Fund online or by sending a check to the Presbytery office marked for Scholarships for Inquirers and Candidates.

Missional Giving in the Presbytery of The Highlands

What is Missional Giving?

Missional is about moving outward in mission and ministry and Missional is about developing disciples and leaders to go out into the world.

The Presbytery Missional Giving is a voluntary gift for those budget items that focus on moving outward and developing disciples

For 2022, Johnsonburg, Synod Mission, Youth Triennium and Young Leader Formation have been identified for Missional areas of focus.

Congregational and Individual Gifts to the Missional Focus can be made online or checks sent to the Presbytery office marked for the 2022 Missional Giving.
