Prayer for Spring has Finally Arrived

Prayer for Spring

The days of darkness and winter are slowly giving way to the light and promise of spring. This year, the season of warmth and renewal has seemed slow in coming. Yet at last, with the warmer days, trees are beginning to bud and blossom. The sun feels good on our faces. Our hearts are lifted by the lengthening sunlight and by the first spring bulbs pushing through the earth with glimpses of color and fresh beginnings.

It has been a long, cold, and dark winter in more ways than one. We long for light and warmth to wrap us in hope. Even so, we remain mindful of those who live each day wondering when the next attack will come. We remember children and families who wake each morning uncertain of what lies ahead, fearful that they may find themselves separated or in detention. The darkness still lingers around us and within our communities. We find ourselves living in the tension between the despair of that darkness and the hope of the coming light.

Let us pray:

Gracious God,
your love and hope have broken into our troubled world
through the life, death, and resurrection of your Son.
You sent Christ to be the light we need at all times,
and especially in seasons of darkness.

Keep us mindful of those who still live in darkness,
and guide us in the ways we may become
the light of Christ’s love for others.
When the shadows begin to close around us,
strengthen us to hold fast to your light.

As Christ shines upon us,
may we know your presence more deeply,
and may we walk in your truth,
your goodness,
and your peace.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
now and forever. Amen.
