At the October Presbytery meeting, the presbytery approved hiring a 20 hour per week Transition Support and Resource Staff person.  The Personnel Committee received four PIFs and conducted interviews just after Thanksgiving.  The Presbytery Coordinating Team (PCT) approved this week the Rev. Steve Huston for that position. Steve begins on January 1, 2021. Steve is the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey, NJ and is a member of Palisades Presbytery.

As a pastor Steve has served three different congregations throughout his ministry.   He has also served as the moderator of the Palisades Presbytery and the Presbytery’s Council. In which for the last 18 months in the role of the Council moderator served as the representative/presbytery leader for the presbytery in NJ transition process.  Steve brings years of experience and training to the position.

Steve’s story in his words.

I was born a Jayhawk and raised a Sooner. After High School I came East for college and seminary, then spent my first year of marriage doing clinical pastoral education with my wife, Heather. Seeking two associate pastor positions in the same congregation, we landed in Iowa where we grew our family by two dogs and two kids (Julia and Harrison). Wanting to raise them all closer to extended family, we moved back to New York to be near my in-laws. Then, seeking out more job prospects for Heather’s newly acquired school counseling degree, we found our way back to NJ in 2012.

As a Teaching Elder, I’ve served three different congregations in three very different settings (small city, rural, and suburban). Each one has been a rewarding experience that helped me grow personally, professionally and spiritually. I believe I’ve helped them do the same – which is good because that is what I feel called to do – to walk alongside people and congregations as they seek to faithfully follow Jesus. 

When I am not at work or spending time with family and friends, I like to exercise my creativity by making things with my hands – or fixing things that are broken.
