News for the Notetakers – A Newsletter for the Clerks of Session of Highlands Presbytery
You’ll Never Walk Alone
Perhaps, like me, reading this title will leave you humming, if not outright bursting out in song. You may think of the original showtune from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1945 musical, Carousel or the hit single in 1963. Some of you, fans of the Liverpool Football Club, may get weepy at your team’s anthem. And if you’ve never heard it, I highly encourage you to do so!
Its message is simple, so simple as to keep this post short and sweet. Walk on with hope, and you will never walk alone.
Many of us have known a lot of “alone time” over the past few years, and it hasn’t always been easy. Though it won’t be in person, our October 1 Clerk of Session workshop is an important opportunity to be reminded that you are not alone in this ministry.
That is far more than hope, because we need not hope for what is seen. You’ve likely traded minutes with another clerk of session, or you will soon. Yes, there are probably people with more clerk experience than you, and just as there are likely clerks who are just as new as you.
The point is, we are all in this together, and this workshop is an opportunity to meet some people you don’t know, to make the connections we all need. This is a chance to see firsthand that there are people in the Presbytery, at the Presbytery, and even in the General Assembly, who want nothing more than to help you succeed.
Here’s to walking on — together!
God is all in all,
