Prayer to be the Beacon of Light in our communities
Many years ago Beacon Presbyterian Church in NE Philly was the light, the beacon, in the middle of the neighborhood. On the shelves were figurines of lighthouses from around the world representing their role in the community. As the neighborhood changed and the congregation dwindled, the Beacon, the longtime light of the neighborhood, dimmed.
Two young pastors along with members from other congregations saw an opportunity to relight the beacon. Together they collaborated with innovative and creative ideas and solutions to repurpose the property, provide a creative worship experience and be a partner in the community. The Beacon of the congregation from years ago has been rekindled.
God continues to call us to share the light of God’s love in our communities and neighborhoods. At times it may feel the strength of our light has dimmed. We believe that God still has a mission and ministry for us wherever we are in our story as communities of faith.
Let us pray for energy, innovation and creativity in discerning our mission and ministry.
Gracious God,
At times our future as a community looks dim and foggy.
Send your Spirit to lighten our path.
At times we feel we have no energy to take the next steps in ministry
Guide us to the places of creativity and energy.
At times there are no choices or too many choices for moving forward in our journey.
Open the doors and paths to new ministries and opportunities
At times we don’t believe we can be that beacon of light in our community
Show the places where our light is needed.
(Time of silent reflection on the ways God walks with us and lights our way)
With your Spirit we know we can be the light and hope of Jesus Christ.
We give you thanks and praise. Amen.
