Previewing the Proposed Amendments to the Book of Order
On the evening of February 27th, members of Highlands Presbytery met to discuss the proposed amendments coming before the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) this year.
Highlands will be voting on ten of the amendments at its March 11 Zoom meeting, as well as the Episcopal-Presbyterian Agreement on Local Sharing of Ministries. The remaining two will be addressed at the May 13 hybrid meeting (in-person at Camp Johnsonburg), allowing the Presbytery to meet the July 4 deadline set by the General Assembly.
This February 27 Zoom event on provided an overview on all thirteen actions.
This opportunity was open to all within Highlands Presbytery, not only the commissioners elected by their sessions, and provided ample time for questions and discussions beyond that available at a presbytery meeting. At the March and May presbytery meetings, only elected commissioners can speak or vote, with speaking limited to two minutes per commissioner.
At the November Presbytery meeting, Highlands Presbytery will elect commissioners for the 227th General Assembly, taking place June 23–July 2, 2026, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The assembly will begin with three days of online meetings, followed by a Community Day focused on relationship-building and active engagement. The in-person portion of the General Assembly will then commence. Ruling and Teaching Elders are encouraged to prayerfully discern whether they are called to serve in this vital ministry of the church.
