Luke 18: 1 -8 A Widow begs for Justice
18:1Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart.
18:2He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people.
18:3In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Grant me justice against my accuser.’
18:4For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone,
18:5yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.'”
18:6And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.
18:7And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them?
18:8I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Prayer for Justice
Lord God, friend of those who seek justice,
We lift before you all who find themselves living on the margins.
Many never imagined they would be in such a place —
yet today they wonder if there will be a paycheck
to cover the bills or put food on the table.
They worry that soon they may not be able to afford
health care, child care, or even the simple necessities of daily life.
We pray, O God, for justice —
that all people may be treated
fairly,
equally,
and given the opportunity to thrive.
Like the persistent widow who would not give up her plea for justice,
grant us the courage, resilience, and perseverance
to keep calling, again and again,
for justice for all who are unseen or unheard.
We lift up our prayers for those without power or voice.
Hear us, Lord, and guide us to speak out faithfully
for all your children.
