Prayers for those who were in the path of Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa, with its Category 5 winds, torrential rainfall, and historic storm surge, has brought widespread destruction to Jamaica, Cuba, and other parts of the Caribbean. The storm is now heading toward Bermuda.

Many lives have been lost, and countless communities lie devastated and in ruins. The work of rebuilding and restoration will take years—perhaps even decades.

Let us lift in prayer all who are affected: the people grieving and displaced, the first responders, government leaders, and aid workers as they labor to bring relief, rebuild communities, and restore hope amid the devastation.

God of mercy and strength,
we lift before you all who have endured the wrath of Hurricane Melissa.
Hold them in your loving care as they recover from devastation and loss.

Protect the vulnerable.
Guide the first responders.
Bring calm to those filled with fear and grief.
Shelter the displaced.
Send swift aid where it is needed most.

Move the hearts of communities around the world
to join in rebuilding what has been destroyed.
Restore hope for the days ahead.

Through Christ, who stills the storm, we pray.

Amen.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a Category 5 storm in Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28th. The impact will require years of rebuilding.
