Prayer offering

Each year the Presbytery office receives for distribution the Minister members denominational ID cards.  This year when we sent the cards to the pastors we asked for a contribution of prayers.  Several pastors in our presbytery have volunteered to write the weekly prayer for the newsletter as an offering and a way to connect us as a community of faith.

This week we begin the offering prayers from our pastors to the presbytery.

Prayer Offering this week was written by Rev. John Potter, HR. Before retirement in 2012,John served as pastor for Larison’s Corner (Ringoes, NJ ) and for Holland Bible Church (Milford, NJ)

A Prayer for Revival

O Lord, our church and our society are in trouble. We have gone astray, following the ways and the values of the world. We have compromised with evil. We who claim to be disciples of Christ have failed to live up to that calling. Our secret sins weaken our commitment and our witness.

We pray for revival in our society, and we recognize that it must begin in our own hearts. Help us to examine ourselves and to discern our own errors. Cleanse us from hidden faults and keep us back from presumptuous sins. Grant that we may seek a deeper, richer and fuller commitment to Christ our Savior.

Have mercy on us, O Lord. Forgive our sinful ways and enable us to surrender our lives completely and without reservation to Jesus. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us as individuals and on your church. Give us boldness to speak of Christ to people we encounter in our daily lives. Give us strength and courage in the face of open opposition and subtle hostility to the gospel. Grant that we may live such a way as to honor our Savior and never to undermine the gospel or the church. Give us a burden for lost souls and enable us to lead others to saving faith. So may our nation and the world be transformed and renewed by the love of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
