Prayer for the 225th General Assembly and its Commissioners

Within a few weeks the General Assembly will convene with a hybrid format. The commissioners will meet online to elect the moderator and then over a period of two weeks gathering in person in Louisville at four different times to do their committee work and then gather again online the first week of July for the plenary. Because the last Assembly pushed work to this assembly, our commissioners have a lot of work to sort through.

At our May Presbytery meeting we commissioned Rev. David Young, Rev. Katherine Scott-Kirschner, Elder Scott Riker and Elder Bob Zeh as our commissioners to the 225th General Assembly.

As commissioners, PCUSA staff, committee assistants and other prepare and gather for this year’s unusual assembly let us keep them in prayer.

Let us pray:

Almighty God, in Jesus Christ you called disciples and, by the Holy Spirit, made them one church to serve you. Be with the commissioners, staff, assistants, and the people who need to make this assemble work. Help them to welcome new things you are doing in the world and in the church. Grant them the vision and creativity that is needed to see where the church is moving in this post pandemic environment.  In their deliberations, bring about what is best for us and for all people. As they meet, let your Holy Spirit guide so that the whole church may be joined in love and service to Jesus Christ, who, having gone before us, is coming to meet us in the promise of your kingdom. Amen.
