Calm is the Night
Many decades ago, I attended a retreat at the Weston Priory in Vermont. There I learned the calm and centering of singing our prayers. I offer this song and prayer for you this week.
Calm is the night, O Lord, as we wait for you. All the stars are laughing at our wonder. “Wait not in vain, for the sun shall come; you will know within you his ever-stirring presence!”
Gracious God,
Sometimes our nights are not calm but filled with anxiety, fear and exhaustion. In the darkness of the night and in the darkness of our soul restore a sense of calm and light. Be with us as we face the dusk. Light those places of night with a glimpse of your light, love and peace. Calm is the night, O Lord, as we wait for you. Amen.
