The Truck Stop Ministry at the Columbia, New Jersey Travel Centers of America, active since 1985, has been served by Methodist and Presbyterian Ministers ever since. The ministry was re-established in 2017 as the NWJTSO as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The chaplain, Presbyterian Minister Reverend Sherry Blackman has been the chaplain on-site since 2006, ministering to drivers, staff, and travelers. Every Wednesday a dozen or more locals from different churches and denominations gather for engaging and life-transforming Bible study at the truck stop restaurant, joining Blackman in offering support, spiritual nourishment and fellowship to drivers from all over North America.

In her most recent book titled Rev-It-Up, Tales of a Truck Stop Chaplain, Sherry shares a collection of her stories, experiences and ministry with truckers. These stories unveil the holy and the unholy, the humorous and the tragic, and illuminates a universal truth–we all need and deserve to be seen, heard, cared for, loved, and nurtured. She observes: “Truck drivers-some 2 million strong-bring us 7 out of 10 items we depend on and spend one-half of their lives behind the wheel traversing deserts, mountains, lone stretches, main arteries, and blue highways, delivering the abundant life that most of us assume will always be within a Walmart reach. Without this industry, our economy would be paralyzed.
