Luke 10: 10 -11 Prayer for being called to go out and not be welcomed
Luke 10: 10 -11
10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off in protest against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has come near.
God of Peace, God of our call,
You call us as disciples to go out
into the world with the Good News.
We all want to go out when we are welcomed,
we all want to go out and be accepted.
Sometimes we are not welcomed.
Sometimes we are rejected.
Being unwelcomed and rejected can be
painful,
scary,
and devastating.
The fear and anxiety of being dismissed,
rejected or ignored keeps us gathered in
a safe and welcoming space.
Being sent out is hard.
We know that since the Pentecost
the disciples throughout the centuries
have been called to go out
of the safe and welcoming spaces
and to go out like lambs among the wolves.
You call us to be bearers of peace,
conveyers of welcome,
and assistance to those in need.
We are to proclaim and demonstrate
that the Kingdom of God has indeed come
near to all.
Give us the strength,
the wisdom,
and the courage to go out
into our neighborhoods and communities
in peace and live what it means
to be the people of God.
For yours is the Glory, Amen.
